HIGHLANDERS DEFEAT DULLES FOR TITLE

TWHS wins Third state title in program history, FINISH SEASON 38-4

The Woodlands Highlanders claimed the 2013 State Championship on June 8, defeating Dulles 9-5 for the 3rd title in school history. The win capped a remarkable season in which the Highlanders finished the year 38-4 and ranked in the top 5 in most national polls. Pitcher Carter Hope limited the Vikings to just 2 hits while stirking out 9 batters. Charlie Warren, Blaine Gillespie and Josh Shaw each recorded 2 hits in the win.

In the semifinal game, Kolbi Brown hit a walk-off home run Friday in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Highlanders a thrilling 2-1 win over SA O'Connor to advance to the state championship game. Chris Andritsos hit a sacrifice fly in the 6th inning to plate Charlie Warren to give TWH a 1-0 lead. Ryan Burnett allowed only 3 hits in the game, going the distance for the win on the mound.

Regional Finals Recap

Rockwall handed The Woodlands its 4th loss of the season lastSaturday afternoon but the Highlanders rebounded to win the series and advance to this week's State Tournament. Brandon Miles pitched the final 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit while striking out 6, to get the win. TWH rallied from a 6-1 deficit behind the bats of Alex Dunlap (3-4, 3 RBI), Luke Sherley (2-3, 3 RBI), Chris Andristos (3-4, 2 RBI) and Kolbi Brown (2-3, HR, triple).

After falling behind 3-0 in game 1, the Highlanders erupted for 12 runs in the 6th inning to defeat Rockwall 12-5. Chris Andristos went 3-4 at the plate including 2 doubles and added 3 RBIs to help lead the offense. Josh Shaw went 2-3 and Carter Hope had a 2 RBI double. Ryan Burnett went the distance on the mound, recording 10 strikouts in the game.

The Woodlands is well-represented on the 2013 district 14-5a all-district team. Ryan Burnett and Chris Andristos were named co-MVP for the season and Coach Ron Eastman was named the coach of the year.

2013 STATE AND NATIONAL RANKINGS

The Woodlands finished the regular season ranked #1 in the state in the THSBCA poll released on May 9.

The Woodlands finished the season ranked #4 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball. Their final poll was released on June 17 and can be seen HERE.
